How do you make a grilled bratwurst better? By adding Sriracha Mayo, that’s how! That’s right, Sriracha mayo! I like adding grilled peppers and onions and put everything on a warm bun.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup minced roasted sweet red peppers
- 3 tablespoons Sriracha chili sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce, optional
- 5 fully cooked bratwurst links
- 5 brat buns or hot dog buns, split
- 1 each red and green bell peppers, sliced in long strips
- 1 onion, sliced in long strips
Directions:
- In a small container, mix together 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup minced roasted sweet red peppers, 3 tablespoons Sriracha chili sauce, and 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce, if using. Mix well and set aside.
- Slice the bell peppers and onions in long strips. Place sliced peppers and and onions in a skillet. Add olive oil and cook over medium heat until peppers and onions are tender. Salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook bratwurst either on the grill or in a cast iron skillet on the stove.
- Serve the bratwurst in buns with the Sriracha mayo and peppers and onions, or any of your other favorite toppings.
Authors Notes:
- I cooked the bratwurst on the stove in a cast iron skillet and basically, followed the directions on the package. First, I put a small amount of olive oil in the bottom of the skillet, then added the bratwurst and cooked until browned on the sides. Next, I carefully added 3/4 of a cup of water. I put the lid on for about 10 minutes and let the bratwurst steam. Finally, I used a thermometer to make sure the bratwurst had reached 160 degrees internally.
- Other toppings you may want to try are:
- red onion
- sauerkraut
- put butter and garlic on the buns and toasted
- instead of steaming brats in water, you could use beer
- ketchup or mustard
- dill pickle relish
- your favorite hot dog chili
