Cold Buster Green Smoothie – made with probiotic-rich kefir, bright lemon, nutritious baby kale, vitamin-rich pineapple and kiwi, antioxidant-rich turmeric, ginger, and some honey for sweetness.
The Perfect Green Smoothie Recipe!
January is all about smoothies right? Maybe come February I might get bored of them but for now I’m still making them every day.
Smoothies are the best way for me to get my kids to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables in one sitting, and myself too of course.
This Cold Buster Green Smoothie is an immune-boosting smoothie that is packed with healthy ingredients to help fight off a cold.
Surprisingly I haven’t gotten a cold yet this winter (fingers crossed I don’t) but if I do I’ll definitely be turning to this. Smoothies are soothing to a sore throat, plus there’s just not a lot of food that sounds great when you’ve got a cold other than something sip-able like cold or warm drinks and soups.
Recipes for a Cold
If you currently have a cold (I’m sorry, I hate being sick! Get well soon!) here are some home remedies you may want to try to help ease your discomfort and hopefully help speed up recovery.
Also, I definitely recommend making some Slow Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup or some of this Cold Buster Chicken and Pasta Soup because chicken noodle soup in general is said to help cure a cold.
And of course, even if you don’t currently have a cold you should still try this smoothie. It’s healthy and delicious and it’s packed with good-for-you, immunity-boosting ingredients like kale, fruit, and kefir. Now break out your blender and get making smoothies!
Smoothie Substitutions for a Healthy Smoothie Recipe
You can customize the best green smoothies to match your tastes and dietary needs. Green smoothie ingredients are flexible, so here are a few ideas for remixing this smoothie all year round:
- Swap kale for spinach or Swiss chard or other leafy greens
- Blend in bananas or mangos for a sweeter taste and creamy texture (I like to keep a variety of frozen fruit in my freezer for moments like this)
- Go dairy-free with almond milk or coconut milk
- Use coconut water instead of plain water
- Bump up the protein by using a protein powder, almond butter, peanut butter, greek yogurt, or other nut butter
- Add extra vitamin C with some orange juice with your liquid base
- Stir in a tablespoon of chia seeds for extra nutrients
